CultureBiz Connect Artist Showcase 2025 at We The Curious, Bristol, England
This special showcase marks the culmination of the CultureBiz Connect Incubator Programme, a six-week initiative designed to support artists and cultural producers with the tools, guidance, networks, and resources to grow their practices and build sustainable creative businesses.
Throughout the project, I was selected to receive tailored mentoring and skills development, culminating in a commission to create new work. This initiative, supported by the Black Southwest Network, allowed for a deeper exploration into the business of art while funding the production of Common Threads.
Common Threads
Installation | Sculpture | Drawing Commissioned by Black Southwest Network 2025
Common Threads is an immersive installation that reflects connection to the collective labour and resilience. Using a vocabulary of materials like paper, fibres, oils and pigments, I explore the weight of invisible emotional labour and the lasting impact of systemic struggles. In this body of work, I reframe discarded matter as a carrier of memory. Through labour-intensive processes—staining, stitching, and mark-making—I seek to uncover hidden histories, drawing inspiration from the traditional craft practices passed down through generations. This work is an intimate reflection on the intersections of identity and tradition, transforming spaces of vulnerability into sites of resistance and visibility.
